Hidden Landscapes: Purple Yam Donut Caverns

On today’s post of Hidden Landscapes, I welcome you to the Purple Yam Donut Caverns. This specific cavern is one of a kind and you can only spot it at Maketto, which is one of my favorite spots to do work at or just chill with a dear friend. This is not an ordinary donut either. The white cap on this donut is a meringue, whipped to marshmallowy perfection. The dough was slightly crisp on the outside but moist and fluffy on the inside. And the most vibrant part of all, the purple yam filling, was very decadent and not too sweet which paired very well with the sweet meringue on top.

My descriptions alone can’t express how amazing this donut was at first bite! I had a friend with me at the time and she definitely saw my immediate bliss once I sunk my teeth into this donut.

I don’t really know how long this treat was made but all I know is that 1. it was made to perfection and 2. it was obliterated in a matter of 7 minutes. With a side of cold brew coffee, of course. I highly recommend this treat if you are in Washington, DC and are planning to pass by Maketto. On the down low, I’ve actually called the place before I come to see if it is available. That’s how much I’d like to have it again and share it with my friends and loved ones. It’s one of those places that makes me feel at home and I dream to create an establishment of my own such as that one day. Definitely near and dear to my heart.

Stay Golden.
